You will have a chance to do so at Spring Fling on March 31st at Spring Hill Baptist Church. Hope to see you there!

On average, 1 in every 540 members of Be The Match Registry® in the United States will go on to donate bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) to a patient. About 1 of every 40 U.S. Be The Match Registry members will be called for additional testing. Additional testing can be used to narrow the list of several potential donors and to determine who is the best possible match for a patient!

The incidence rate, or the likelihood of a child being born with FA, is about 1 in 131,000 in the U.S., with approximately 31 babies born with FA each year in this country. In 2009, 2 of the 31 blessings from God were in our home. Please help us support those who are working hard to find a cure by attending the Spring Fling on March 31st.
Did you know that 85% of the funds used for FA research are raised by families affected by FA?

UVA’s Coach and Hold My Hand For Life Rally For Same Cause!

UVA’s Coach London and Hold My Hand for Life lobby for same cause!!!!

Ruckersville, VA – March 12, 2012. Spring Hill’s community-wide Spring Fling will be held March 31st from 1-4pm at Dover-Foxcroft Farm adjacent to Spring Hill Baptist Church in Ruckersville. With over 1,000 people in attendance last year, this year’s seasonal event will be even bigger with lots of free family fun including moon bounces, food, games, a caricature artist, face painting, a huge Easter egg hunt with 10,000+ eggs and other entertainment.
While Spring Fling is all about an Easter egg hunt and fun for the whole family, the partnership with Hold My Hand for Life Foundation has far-ranging impact. This local foundation hosts a private auction and other activities at the event to raise money for Fanconi anemia research (story below). In addition, the foundation conducts a bone marrow registry in conjunction with the Be The Match Registry, a national bone marrow database. Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match to save their life.
Last year, UVA head football coach Mike London attended Spring Fling and spoke about his personal experience with Fanconi anemia and bone marrow transplant as well as his passion to motivate people to join the bone marrow registry. While unable to attend this year, Coach London sends words of encouragement, “Give the gift of life. Be an active participant in the National Bone Marrow Registry. Serve and volunteer for bone marrow drives held in your community. Make a significant gesture through your time, resources, or passion to become educated on the benefits of this life-saving opportunity. “
Coach London continues, “Nine years ago I donated bone marrow to my daughter, Ticynn, and saved her life! The last three years the football team held a bone marrow drive on the Grounds of UVA. It resulted in two players and one UVA student being a match. YOU can make a difference by getting involved. Don’t be on the sideline; get in the game and save a life!”
